He was staring at the kitchen cupboards, his brow furrowed in that specific, “where is the salt” way. Without looking up from my book, I reached behind the cereal box and handed it to him.
“Thanks,” he murmured, his thumb brushing mine.
“Top shelf, left side, behind the tea for the honey,” I added.
He paused, a small, tired smile breaking through. “You’re reading my mind again.”
“No,” I said, finally looking up with a wink. “I just know your patterns.”
He kissed my temple, and it felt like home.
Essay B
Back from a party, tired but unwilling to end the night, we sit on the balcony. We breathe in the crisp fall air and enjoy the silence.
“It’s good to be home. I can’t talk to people for too long” he says.
“But you talk to me all the time” say I.
“Nah – you’re not ‘people’. You’re a part of me now. So talking to you is like talking to myself” he quips, matter-of-fact.
And I fall in love all over again.
